DCLM Daily Manna, Tuesday March 1, 2016 by Pastor Kumuyi - Cleave and Live
Topic: Cleave and Live [Tuesday March 1, 2016]
Text: Deuteronomy 4:1-13
Key Verse: "...For all the men that followed Baalpeor, the LORD thy God hath destroyed them from among you. But ye that did cleave unto the LORD your God are alive every one of you this day"- (Deuteronomy 4:3, 4).
The book of Deuteronomy consists mainly of Moses farewell messages in which he reviewed and renewed God's covenant with Israel for the sake of the new generation of Israelites. God had led the people out of Egypt and they were on the verge of entering the Promised Land. For the most part, this new generation had no personal recollection of the varied experiences of the past.
They therefore, needed an inspired recounting of God's mighty acts, His covenant, Law and faithful dealings with His people. The past generation of the children of Israel had lived a life of sin, disobedience and rebellion. This new generation needed to know about their covenant-keeping God, His word and commandments. To live in Canaan with assurance of God's blessings and abiding presence required a sin-free relationship with Him.
They were to hold fast to the LORD, fear Him, teach His ways to their children and seek Him always with all their hearts and souls in true faith and love. They were not to add, subtract, diminish contradict or modify God's word. The nation of Israel was expected to draw other nations to God by abandoning their sinful and wicked ways. This, they could only effectively do by total obedience to His commandments and trust in Him. They were to understand that a diligent persevering conformity to God's way and commandments was the most effective way of passing a spiritual inheritance to their children.
As New Testament believers, we are God's own possession. We should by our Christian The Bible conduct show forth the goodness, mercy, love of His lordship and great power. We can do this by living a life free from sin and worldly practices.
Thought for the day: It is a new day; seek ye the Lord now.
Bible Reading in one Year: Leviticus 12-14
