Topic: The Wise Choice [Monday November 9, 2015]

Text: Hebrews 11:23-25

Key Verse: “By faith Moses, when he was come to years, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter” (Hebrews 11:24).

His friends warned him that he was treading a rather dangerous path, avoiding fellowship and spending his time with women of easy virtue and alcohol. He merely laughed, maintaining that fellowship and Christ had gone out of his life after his graduation, and that he should now be left alone to savour his liberty, a so-called liberty.

They persisted but their warnings fell on deaf ears. Johnson, had made a choice that gave no room for Christ. Soon, the pleasures of the world with its glittering light consumed his passion, and bound him hand and foot to the devil. Not long after, he lost his life in a tragic accident. Moses had the best upbringing available in ancient Egypt; the purpose was to make him an heir to the throne. He gave up the pleasures of the palace to identify with the squalor and humiliation of the down-trodden people of God. He saw, by faith, the great wealth and prestige surrounding him as being of temporal and fleeting nature, “choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season” (verse 25). The essence of human existence is not just for ‘now’, but for ‘hereafter’.

The choice we make today will obviously determine where we would spend eternity. Charles Spurgeon described death as ‘a changing room where we put on the robe of immortality’. Then we receive the reward of the choice we had made to spend eternity either in heaven or in hell. Heaven is real; hell also is real. It is either heaven or hell; there is no neutral place, no waiting room. Heaven is for the righteous saints who believe in the Lord Jesus Christ. Hell is for sinners who reject Him. You have a choice to make.

Thought for the day: The choice you make today determines your place in eternity.
