Nigerian Premier League: APC Blames Wike for Relegation of Sharks

Governor Nyesom Wike has been blamed for the relegation, at the weekend, of Sharks Football Club from the Nigerian Premier League.

In a statement signed by its Chairman, Dr. Davies Ibiamu Ikanya, and issued Tuesday in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) described the development as a disgrace and yet another monument to the disastrous management style of Chief Wike.

“That the legendary Sharks FC that represents the strength and character of Rivers State and her people did not suffer relegation for the past ten years and throughout the eight years of Rt Hon Chibuike Amaechi as Governor, has been relegated from the Nigerian Premier League within just six months of the ill-fated administration of Chief Nyesom Wike speaks volumes about the ill luck which the accidental governor has brought to Rivers State. The relegation of Sharks, the darling team of Rivers State football fans, is yet another reminder that Wike and his co-travellers in Rivers PDP represent a bad omen and should be quickly shown the way out of the Brick House seat of power before they do incalculable harm to the State,” Rivers APC said.

“We regret the relegation of this club that is our symbol and strength but we wish to assure both the players and Management of Sharks FC that they will regain their place in the Nigerian Premier League by next season immediately we are elected to govern the State,” the party said.

It noted that Rivers State is today hosting all manner of international matches due to the foresight of former governor Amaechi who initiated and completed the Amiesimaka International Stadium.

“This is the same stadium which Wike mobilised the Army to seize for a rally while it was undergoing renovation during the campaign period for the 2015 election during which he equally stole the mandate Rivers people gave our great party but we are confident to recover soon,” the party stated.
