DCLM Daily Manna, Saturday November 7, 2015 by Pastor Kumuyi – Planted in the Lord’s House
Topic: Planted In the Lord’s House [Saturday November 7, 2015]
Text: Psalm 92:1-15
Key Verse: “Those that be planted in the house of the LORD shall flourish in the courts of our God” (Psalm 92:13).
There are marked differences between weeds and plants. The most important of these is the fact that weeds are free-growing, whereas plants are cultivated. Weeds are often invasive and grow rapidly but are undesirable. Plants, on the other hand, are delicate and are painstakingly nurtured to bear desirable fruits or for their aesthetic, therapeutic or other values.
This horticultural reality aptly illustrates the contrast between the righteous and the unrighteous. Today’s text highlights this contrast in a most graphical way. This Psalm underscores the duty and desirability of praising God. God is most worthy to be praised, especially for His works and wisdom. Unfortunately, there are some ungrateful people who are willfully ignorant of such marvelous works. They rationalize such thought by attributing God’s works to a product of a big-bang warped science. The ungodly are not only, brutish for not glorifying God, but they are very much like weeds. They may spring up as rapidly as grass and flourish outwardly like summer flower, but “they shall be destroyed forever”. In contrast, “the righteous shall flourish like the palm tree: he shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon”.
They may not attain the rapid growth of weeds, but shall grow gracefully, steadily and enduringly like palm trees. Like the cedar, they are stable, incorruptible and fruitful. The righteous is God’s plant; planted in the best of soils – the house of the Lord – where he is nurtured on God’s rich counsel, care and comfort. Are you a weed or a plant? On what soil is your life planted? Are you rooted in the vanities and wickedness of this world or in the rich soil of God’s grace and fellowship? Straighten your way with God through repentance and faith in Christ. If you are already “planted”, consecrate to God for more growth and fruitfulness.
Thought for the day: Are you a weed or plant?
