Pastor Faith Oyedepo: Saturday November 7, 2015 Daily Devotional – Mixture of love
Topic: Mixture of love [Saturday 7 November, 2015]
“That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,”-Ephesians 5:26
I read an article sometime ago which was a blessing to me. The message in it suggests that if only we can learn to treat our family, spouse and loved ones as good and courteous as we treat a stranger, our homes would be a haven. How true it is that people pay more attention to the way they address those they are meeting them for the first time, and forget to attach such caution to their family or spouse.
They could speak softly to a colleague, say thank you when done a favour and also apologise when wrong, but would not apply the same attitude to their spouses. Yes, your spouse is different from those outside, but that is a profound reason why you should treat him or her better, especially with your words. Words have lasting effect; even if the issue is resolved, your words still linger.
You are expected to cleanse your spouse by the washing of water by the Word. So, even when they make mistakes, your words of correction should still be filled with love and not hate or irritation. Love should be behind every observation, correction, rebuke or instruction you give. At no time, should any unhealthy word come out of your mouth towards your family. That way, you will present them a healthy family, filled with love.
Your words to your spouse, no matter the situation at hand, are like an egg. When it is broken, no amount of mending can gather it together. Therefore, even when you are so overwhelmed by an issue, you should compose your words with all maturity and a full understanding that the situation at hand would pass, but your words cannot be taken back. So, you must choose your words wisely, so you don’t cause any further damages. From today, you will be wise and loving with words in the name of Jesus Christ!
Remain Blessed!
