Hon. Igbuya extols virtues of Late Stephen Keshi


The Speaker, Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon Monday Igbuya on Thursday joined football administrators, players, coaches and political leaders to offer tribute to former Super Eagles captain and coach, Mr. Stephen Keshi.

Igbuya said the death of Keshi had created a huge vacuum in Nigerian football.

Speaking during the lying-in-state at Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba, Igbuya described Mr. Keshi as a patriotic Nigerian and a great Deltan.

He said the late Keshi's notable contributions to the development and progress of football within and outside the country would not be forgotten.

“His death is a monumental national loss. It is very sad. It is very painful. He was a great footballer and coach. He made Delta State proud. He did the nation and the youth proud by standing out in the crowd not only as a skillful player but a coach imbued with maturity. We will definitely miss him” Igbuya said.

He called on family members, friends and associates of the Big Boss to take solace in the fact that the late footballer and coach played the parts assigned to him thoroughly.

The Right Honourable Speaker prayed God to grant Keshi an eternal rest in peace and a worthy place in Paradise.

"Please accept the condolences of the Delta State House of Assembly” he added.                                          
Meanwhile, the Speaker, Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon Monday Igbuya on Thursday commended His Royal Majesty, Orhue 1, Orodje of Okpe Kingdom for stimulating harmony and development in Delta State.

He also praised His Royal Majesty for using his position for the service of the people.

In a congratulatory message to the monarch on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of his ascension to the throne, Igbuya attributed the peace, progress and prosperity of Okpe kingdom to the wise and benevolent leadership of His Royal Majesty.

He applauded the monarch for his noble service to the people and his role in ensuring a better future for progress and prosperity for the people and the kingdom.

Describing His Royal Majesty as “a source of strength and inspiration for many” Igbuya assured the monarch of rapid development in the kingdom.

“I wish His Royal Majesty, members of the traditional council and all the people of Okpe kingdom the very best on this special anniversary” the statement said.

Similarly, the speaker on Thursday lauded the leadership qualities of the Senior Special Assistant to Governor Ifeanyi Okowa on Labour and Industrial Relations, Comrade Mike Okeme, describing him as “an embodiment of hard work, loyalty and honesty”

He also expressed deep admiration for Okeme’s invaluable contribution in the area of industrial harmony in Delta State.

 “There is no doubt that your humility, sincerity of purpose and love for mankind has contributed immensely to your success. It is my great pleasure to convey my warmest greetings and heartfelt felicitations to you on the occasion of your 60th birthday” the statement added.
