Power generation will hit 6,000 megawatts by December 2016 – Fashola
The Federal Government has reiterated the promise to increase power generation to 6,000 megawatts before the end of the year.
Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Raji Fashola (SAN) made the promise while speaking before a delegation of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) on Friday.
Fashola, who was represented by the Minister of State in the ministry, Hon Mustapha Shehuri, stressed that the Buhari-led administration will not relent until it achieves the target of power generation, address infrastructural decay in the sector and a sustainable economy.
According to a statement from the Director of Press, Mr. Timothy Oyedeji, the minister said: “Government intends to tackle this rot in the power sector through holistic approach as contained in the recently unveiled Road Map to Power, which are time lines and planned series of complimentary activities and deliverables.
He projected an increase in power supply to 30, 000 megawatts in 2030.
“We are expecting that at end of the year, our generating capacity will be over 6,000MW by end of 2016, 10,000MW in 2019 and 30,000MW in 2030.”
Power generation in the country currently stands at 2, 751 megawatts.
