Topic: Don’t Be Timid [October 26, 2016]
Text: 2 Corinthians 10:12-18
Key Verse: "To preach the gospel in the regions beyond you, and not to boast in another man's line of things made ready to our hand." (2 Corinthians 10:16).
Everyman has treasures of divine deposits of wealth inside him. These treasure or potentials are God’s investments in his life. They are seeds of greatness planted in his life for optimum living. God expects everyone to make maximum positive use of the potentials in a way that it would profit Him. The impact we make with our potentials will bring fulfillment in our lives and create more opportunities for us to maximize them. For Apostle Paul, from the first day he met Christ on the way to Damascus, his life never remained the same.
He began to do exceptional things and breaking new grounds. Ordinarily, he could have been timid and naive; he could have chosen to operate in the shadows of the likes of Apostle Peter and others who indeed, saw Christ one-on-one, or he could have decided to seek notice since his conversion was unique. But he chose to create a niche for himself. He knew that God had deposited in him some special gifts and potentials, and he decided to launch out to "the regions" afar.
In our text, Paul says he is not interested in carnal comparison. He will not involve himself in power struggle and personalities clash that exists in other worship places. So, in order to defend his work, he confined his report to the works of his life. He will not report the works of his life in a competitive spirit nor with a boastful attitude. Since he is judged only by God, he neither needs to compete with others, nor seek the approval of others to do his work. For us believers, this is very instructive. We must shun the competitive spirit that has destroyed many churches today.
By sinful maneuvering of church politics, many so-called but carnally-minded preachers are merely interested in positions and by so doing, lead many souls astray. But as believers, we must live out the potentials God has deposited in us in a modest and humble manner.
Thought for the day: God, the chief employer, knows His genuine workers.
